Dark Souls

So I got snowed in recently and decided it was as good a time as any to speed paint through all of my Dark Souls minis.  These were kinda fun due to easy and limited color palettes on each mini and the sculpts really are quite good for the most part.

Apparently the art direction in Dark Souls includes a lot of drab grey colors so all the characters kind of look alike.

The armor sets were a bit more fun especially the adventurers set.

But the summons and Invader minis were simple spray paint shading with a dry brush.

The 3d props were a nice little inclusion to replace the cardboard markers.  The mimic is a really fun sculpts some of these I wish I could just get seperate for use in other games.

Plenty of basic enemies to play with!

Most of the bosses or mini bosses were easier to paint than anything else.  A lot of them only had 2 colors.

I wishes they had sculpted some fire on the smelter demon.

This was one of my favorite sculpts in the game.  They took some extra time on Sif and its easy to paint a little personality into him.

Old Smough doesn't event get a two color treatment per his original color scheme.

The dancer's veil was a weird one to do because its so thick on the model but thin in the actual game.

Again they seme to dislike sculpting fire for some reason and the 'fire' on the blade wasn't really even there for the most part.  Not sure why they missed this opportunity.

The four kings really are as easy to paint as they look.

The Gaping Dragon was my favorite by far.  It doesn't really show up on pics very well but the oily skin turned out great after spraying the model with some purple, orange and teal in patches and just covering it in washes galore to darken it back down.

And thats it not a lot of challenge in painting this game but it was pretty fun.  The board game isn't amazing but it isn't terrible either.  As a fan of the video games though I just couldn't resist painting this one.
