Hero Quest Flashback

Anyone who was a kid in the early 90's or late 80's remembers begging their parents for a copy of this gem.  Heroquest has a ton of flaws as a game but for it's time it was both fun and amazing to look at.  A few years ago I got bored of painting space marines for commission work and took a break by painting up my old Heroquest set over a weekend.

I wasn't going for a stellar paint job but something serviceable with a bit of that gritty old school look.  Anyways after realizing they never got in front of the camera I decided to fix that:

The furniture of course has already been featured on the Warhammer Quest painting earlier but I couldn't resist some kind of group photo...

The heroes in all of their ancient painted glory.  Drybrushing was a bit of the key to this job both in making them look as old as they are and being able to get the whole set done in a weekend.

The undead take to this style very well.

Surprised the skeletor rip off never got hit with a lawsuit...

Somehow I think I ended up with a few more greenskins than there were supposed to be.  In the back center there is the 'leader' orc who is barely differentiated on the miniature by having a slightly larger sword than any other orcs.  Yes there is a quest with a leader orc that this miniature was required to be used for once and only once.

Finally the old GW bloodthirster model which they re-purposed as a gargoyle for Milton Bradley and a few Fimirs.
