Hero Quest Flashback

Anyone who was a kid in the early 90's or late 80's remembers begging their parents for a copy of this gem.  Heroquest has a ton of flaws as a game but for it's time it was both fun and amazing to look at.  A few years ago I got bored of painting space marines for commission work and took a break by painting up my old Heroquest set over a weekend.

I wasn't going for a stellar paint job but something serviceable with a bit of that gritty old school look.  Anyways after realizing they never got in front of the camera I decided to fix that:

The furniture of course has already been featured on the Warhammer Quest painting earlier but I couldn't resist some kind of group photo...

The heroes in all of their ancient painted glory.  Drybrushing was a bit of the key to this job both in making them look as old as they are and being able to get the whole set done in a weekend.

The undead take to this style very well.

Surprised the skeletor rip off never got hit with a lawsuit...

Somehow I think I ended up with a few more greenskins than there were supposed to be.  In the back center there is the 'leader' orc who is barely differentiated on the miniature by having a slightly larger sword than any other orcs.  Yes there is a quest with a leader orc that this miniature was required to be used for once and only once.

Finally the old GW bloodthirster model which they re-purposed as a gargoyle for Milton Bradley and a few Fimirs.

Fire and Furniture

To continue on with the randomness I've painted up a few hordes of Fire Elementals for my friend's Salamander army.  Hope to see these beauts hit the table soon!

Since you really can never have enough furniture for your dungeon (have to keep the feng shui) I've painted up some dungeon saga furniture.  Great models really and they painted up in just an hour:

Elves, Creeps and Cities

A few new things are done or at least done-ish.  I've been agonizing over how I wanted my elf army to look and finally came up with something suitably elfy:

I still need some more elves finished before there are enough to meet at least minimum model count but it's nice to have the formula down. Yes my madness does force me to paint something pink at least once a year...

Next up I needed some genestealers to steal some genes during the Sodak Con space hulk game.  Of course I just had to do an aliens rip off not only because I can but because its super fast:

Finally (and with much more effort) our infinity group needed a map to campaign on.  apparently they've gotten jealous of the Kings of War one so two butchered monopoly sets, 1 butchered catan, expansion and seafarers set, tiles from the original mighty empires by GW (yes all the city blocks are those tiles which are VERY out of print) and I now have only my second most expensive campaign map...   Yes I need help!

Still despite my descent into madness I like the finished result.

Speedy Marines

Decided to do a Space Hulk game for the local con so I need to paint up the usual suspects for said game.  First step are four distinct squads of terminators.  Wanted to get these done as fast as possible as I really really don't like painting marines anymore than I have to....

Might go back some day and hit real highlights on them but considering the mound of painting projects it is doubtful.  Sometimes you just settle on a 'good enough' job.

After much delay I'm back at it!

Well back in March we got a rude awakening that they were selling the house myself and some roomies were living in.  So after two months I'm moved in to a new place and back in action finally!

Of course I have a few random Abyssal Dwarf minis to show off as well!  On top of that for the time being I've gone back to using clipping magic to remove the ugly photo box background!  The program works great so check it out if you get a chance:

After much work I finally painted up the horde of Slave Orcs!  I really do love the mantic orcs they just look absolutely brutal.

I'm also a fan of the Obsidian Golems so I thought I'd paint up another horde of them.  This time they are not on fire so I have a unit that can be distinguished in case of using two and having an artefact on one.

The Greater Obsidian was my first attempt at glowing crystals and overall I like the look.

Hopefully next update will not be a two month gap though it may get a little more random next time...

Big Bad Dwarf Things

Alright two new units for the Abyssal Dwarves are finished off and ready to enter the fray.

Up first a horde of Grotesques.  The bull centaurs have been done since the dark times before Kings of War but the unit fillers needed to be added to make the minimum unit size and fill out that last 25mm on the base.

The hapless peasents running from the horde are painted up in my rival's Rhordian color schemes.

The next model was one that has been taunting me since I bought it on release.  I love this giant thing and it was a fun painting project as well.  On top of that there was no need to modify it so that's a bonus!

I really think Mantic hit it out of the park on this one.  Even though its hard to fit such a points heavy model in it shall be squeezed in one way or another...

The True Sith Lord

So this happened:

Yep we have an X-Wing event this month and I wanted to make a special prize for whoever gets the most wins during the campaign.  Thus Sith Lord Binks was born or Darth Yusa

Also finished up a horde of Lesser Abyssaals:
