I've had a touch of hobby burn out lately. I did get a few things done but mostly took it easy.
The Night Stalkers finally have some blood worms to add to the ranks. These are plastic worm things from the Halloween store and fishing lures.
The murderous elves now have a tree herder that looks fabulous!
And a regiment of heavy cavalry!
And no longer do my artillery pieces have to go into battle in grey plastic color...
Oh and I decided to go crazy and take some giant group shots...
Yeah I have a problem...

Revisiting
I decided that it was time to add a bit to some long neglected armies as of late.
Had these guys kicking around for some time and finally conscripted them into the Night Stalkers army. These will be used as nightmares.
The League of Rhordia army really needed some more halflings so why not add the first spear horde.
Add in a vaguely overcompensating army standard and a miniature gandalf and Rhordia has been bolstered!
I thought it would be good to get an updated group photo of both armies while I was at it too.

Bolstering the Ranks
So now that there's a new edition of 40k out I like Kings of War even more. Seriously though what does GW have against grey knights? I just want to play with my man dolls without asking my opponent if I can take twice as many points to even the odds!
Ahem...
So my Night Stalkers needed a few reinforcements:
I've been wanting to try out some shadow hounds as they seem like a nice fast cavalry and chaff unit that my army desperately needs. These little guys come out of the new WizKids unpainted D&D minis. The quality on those is really high though I do wish they hadn't primed them. Let the customer choose their own priming color you fools!
A few specters have also been added to bolster the ranged portion of the army as well. These guys are all mind flayers from the wiz kids line and reaper minis.
Finally I needed to add some Gore Riders to my abyssal dwarves as I just picked up a troop for the campaign. Yet again I really don't see why people keep hating on mantics minis they have some fabulous sculpts and they paint up really well. I only wish they had less armor to represent their slave status!
Since I was already painting up a troop might as well finish it up with a full regiment as well. Another fun thing about the slave orc gore rider regiment box is that you can make both a troop and regiment from one box! Sweet deal. Love the little dwarf chariot too.

Something Old, Something Blue?
As always no army is ever even close to complete. I've added the old Ariel model from the wood elves as a beautifully creepy planar apparition for my Night Stalkers. The beholder I was using to fill this slot will now be a much more fitting extra Void Lurker.
And an old piece of GW terrain (though recently re-released?) with some demon cultists on top as an abysaal well of souls. This thing managed to barely fit in the storage box after magnetizing the cultists on top!
The humans have been officially named the Fancy Pants Militia and are nearly ready for battle so pics are soon to come...

The Fork
That's right stick a fork in it they're done. I will eventually revisit this army to add a few things in but the original project is done and I'm happy with the results.
I agonized about using dark eldar wracks as reapers for some time since they are fairly expensive and I wanted to keep this army on the cheap side. Eventually I gave in and I do like the final look of them.
Of course what project can be finished without a giant group shot? No project I say!
It's been a fun army for sure. A nice break from the lizardmen I had been painting (pics to come soon). Next up is a far less fun project of re-basing a 10,000 point daemon army....

Home Stretch
Sick of the stalkers yet? Too bad! After this I only have a regiment of reapers to finish the project off.
So up first are the 'hero' models. The shade:
And the Banshee. Both of these seem like interesting characters to use but as always points are very tight in a night stalkers army so without ludicrously large battles I won't get to try them all at once.
Mostly because I can here is the Portal of Despair. Not sure how easily I will be able to fit this thing in an army due to points limits but I does look foreboding.
And the kit I got the portal out of becomes a rather fitting (for my theme) shadow hulk. Since its supposed to be a malformed cyclops I just assume the tentacles are coming out of the former eye socket:
Personally I'm tired of painting this army and would take a break if I wasn't so stupidly close to having it all done. Really don't think I want to field this army without the reapers. Blood worms would also be nice but I have no idea what I want to use for them yet.

Short But Not Sweet
One last unit to finish up before the campaign. Still didn't get the reapers done but I did get close to finishing the whole army before the upcoming campaign at least.
Now the army has some fiends:

Its Officially an Obsession Now
So now its a 2000+ point army and there are still more man dolls to paint....
The rest of the phantoms are done so they can linke/form Voltron and become a real regiment! These silly spirit host models are so fiddly and hard to assemble I honestly don't think I've done it the way they are trying to show me how to in the instructions once:
Like 80% of Night Stalker players I went with the reaper alien squid faced models for my Butchers. Not original in any way but they work so well! I was going to do 3 per regiment base but they just felt crowded:
This project has definitely helped me with blending and trying out a few new techniques. On top of that the army has a fairly unique look on the table so that's a bonus.

Giant Man Dolls with 20% More Creep!
Just working on more and more nightstalkers. Trying to complete the army before a campaign next week which is seeming to be an impossible goal but why not try!
The Mind Screech is up first with a little more green than normal but still creepy.
Not entirely sold on keeping this guy as a void lurker but for now he will do.
Almost feel bad using this awesome model as a heal stick (planar apparition) but I couldn't just NOT use it!
And finally Shuma Gorath from hero clix guest staring as my armies Terror:
This guy was so big I had to put magnets in the top tentacle to make it fit inside the storage tub!

More Forces of Nature and Night-Stalkers.
Finished up the legion of scarecrows for Kings of War Nightstalkers:
Next up for the stalkers will be some HUGE monsters...
And it seems I've been neglecting to take pictures of all the nature stuff that has been finished over the year. Messed around with some rudimentary background replacement with mixed results but it does look a little more spiffy:
I really liked the salamanders Mantic put out recently. They lend themselves to lots of different paint schemes and look suitably brutish as well. Eventually I want to expand this to a horde:
Updated the Forest Shamblers to a horde thanks to Mantic's new releases:
Requisitioned the WHQ hydra for this army
The green lady may need some touchups as she was a quick paint up for a game.
Some GW dryads to represent my nayad horde.
Tree herder again stolen from the WHQ miniatures and given a base treatment
No background swaping for this as I just got too lazy to go through all the gaps. Here's the whole horde of tree huggers in all their (way too many points) glory:

Night Stalkers
More kings of war randomness. Started painting my Night Stalkers with a very strange scheme in minds. I wanted something simple and otherworldly. It had to have glow effects and I wanted to practice NMM for the first time so here they are:
Plan to use this little guy as a horror.
These will be the phantoms. I was fairly happy with how the daggers turned out on them.
Heres the dopplegangers. Just a few reaper chronoscope aliens with the weapons cut off.
This roper will be my screamer.
And the start of my scarecrows made from Wyrd miniatures puppet wars. Its not too expensive as of now on ebay and 1 box will make a whole legion of creepy dolls.
