All Natural Pics!

It dawned on me I have a rather large nature army that never got a big group photo!  This army began life during Kings of War 2nd edition and was the first army I made specifically for KoW.  It's gotten rather large but even so some previous entries on the blog have been rebased and moved to other games (mostly Warhammer Quest).  In its current form its pretty complete though I may have to revisit it and fill out a few entries...

Here's the big picture, over 4000 points of nature.  The rules have changed a ton since I first started this army but no unit has been invalidated or shelved because of it.

at one point I did field all three unicorns as well as tons of regenerating units.  It was hilarious but kinda mean...

Lots of reaper bones were used though a few mantic models also made it in.  Mostly only a few due to the options not being made until well after I already had a unit.

Currently I only have one beast of nature for the army.  I do want to eventually swap it out for a more table friendly model and add another 2 in for fun.

Yep that's a toy for my hydra repainted in the brightest colors I could think of!

The druids are some of my favorites, lots of fun to paint.

These are my worm riders, as you can see there is indeed a worm riding every one of them.

Somewhere in storage I have another scorchwing regiment that I need to find.

Woodland critters were a lot of fun.  I do miss when they had multiple variants of ensaring, basic and flying though.

The absolutely random assortment of minis represent my hunters of the wild.

And the Dryads finish off my Naiads

Back to Nature and Stunties

Been a while since the last update but it doesn't mean I haven't made progress on the hobby front.

The dwarves got some much needed love in the form of a regiment of Ironclad.  These of coarse are the GW Ironbreakers and they are beautiful models and some of the last models they've made that still have that 'dwarfy' look that I love so much from them.

To accompany my tree herder for Forces of Nature I added a forest warden (smaller base so it works!).

Been meaning to add another Beast of Nature so I stole this one and rebased it from Warhammer quest.

Finally got my hands on some of the Mantic Earth elementals and wow was I impressed.  Great sculpt and lots of fun to be had with these models.

Added another Unicorn to complete the trio of massive healing.  These guys combined to keep a unit of Naiads alive for nearly an entire game.  Thanks to healing and regen that unit probably took around 60 damage over the coarse of a game.

I'm am super stoked about the Woodland Critters added in for CoK 18.  This really is the type of unit I wanted and more for Nature.  They tank decently well despite the 2+ nerve, move reasonably fast and are super cheap!

The last woodland Critters horde is made up of toy spiders painted up to look as neutral as I could make spiders look!

And finally the forces of nature are at a good stoping spot for now and I consider them 'done'.  As such they have moved on up to the Finished Projects pages at 5000+ points!

Here there be Dragons

Not trying to power game or something silly like that.  No I just took a look at the KoW armies and said 'Oh sweet I can build an army of dragons!'.  So of course I just had to.  All Drakon Riders and Dragon Lords from the Elf army.

First Horde is done now with another dragon in front to fill it in.

And a regiment because hordes are expensive!

Finally the first of three dragon lords.

This army may be technically banned at tournaments but I just wanted to see it become a reality.  That and the KoW campaign we have coming up calls for a possibility of awakening an angry dragon army.  The miniatures are either Bones or D&D attack wing. The bases are done by piling up a glue or green stuff to form mounts and putting gems and a mixture of round gold glitter and tiny colored glitter.  Overal the effect looks very convincing (more so than in the pictures) as the light bounces off the glitter bombed bases.

On the even more whimsical side we are doing an Infinity Leprechaun hunt so I painted up a few of the wee little lads which will now double as the druids of my nature army!

Natural Diversions

Wanted to try out some new nature units so I made some Niaad Wyrmriders.  Obviously this translates into worms riding trees because nature:

And a little more work on the campaign this time painting up a few villages.  Considering their scale and age I'm impressed with these micro sculpts from the bygone era:

Humans, Holidays and Unicorns!

Things haven't been random enough lately so I started a kingdoms of men army:

A friend proposed the color scheme which is definitely a new one for me. Still need to fill out the units but its a start for the pikemen.

Nature has a new (non winged) unicorn in the style of Lisa Frank...

And for the Xmas event in our store I took a few heroclix toy soldiers (left the pre paint job on because its so colorful!) and made a regiment base for a nutcracker suite!

Natural Things?

Just wanted to flesh out my Forces of Nature a little bit more with some cavalry.  Obvious choice is of course the centaurs:

Because of the joys of multi basing I could spare an extra two to be centaur chiefs.   The regiment itself only needed 8 models and can be split up as always into two troops.  This should provide some much needed speed to the army.

These were fairly nice looking models but I have to say they needed to be in plastic instead of metal.  Since Mantic uses more realistic proportions on their models the limps ended but being SUPER thin and easily bend with a stiff breeze.  On top of that the double handed weapons were a major pain to put together and gaps were prevalent throughout.

Still I might go in later and work on some of the flesh tones a bit more but I did want to get this unit finished up wuickly.

More Forces of Nature and Night-Stalkers.

Finished up the legion of scarecrows for Kings of War Nightstalkers:

Next up for the stalkers will be some HUGE monsters...

And it seems I've been neglecting to take pictures of all the nature stuff that has been finished over the year.  Messed around with some rudimentary background replacement with mixed results but it does look a little more spiffy:

I really liked the salamanders Mantic put out recently.  They lend themselves to lots of different paint schemes and look suitably brutish as well.  Eventually I want to expand this to a horde:

Updated the Forest Shamblers to a horde thanks to Mantic's new releases:

Requisitioned the WHQ hydra for this army

The green lady may need some touchups as she was a quick paint up for a game.

Some GW dryads to represent my nayad horde.

Tree herder again stolen from the WHQ miniatures and given a base treatment

No background swaping for this as I just got too lazy to go through all the gaps.  Here's the whole horde of tree huggers in all their (way too many points) glory:

Winter is Here...

Basement is currently frozen which means so is painting time due to a broken furnace.  Might as well finally post a few pictures then!

Expanded the Forces of Nature this army is really taking shape now:

These are my hunters of the Wild made of random miniatures left over from bones kick starters and a few new ones added for flavor. Really a fun unit to paint up with a lot of variety.

A horde of water elementals really adds a bit of survivability while maintaining a decent punch in the army.
